I love having the opportunity to share my knowledge. I’m not super comfortable with public speaking, but knowing that I’m helping others makes it worthwhile.
Life doesn’t suck…
because I get the opportunity to share my knowledge
I spoke at a thing called Job Lab today. Job Lab is a public event that a friend of mine is running in our CBD. It’s all about revitalising our CBD and helping people find jobs.
This week is their creative technology week. I started a Facebook group a while ago for freelance creatives in our city. Because of this and my experience with freelancing, I was asked to speak about my journey.
I don’t like to plan too much for something like this. This is because I feel like if I prepare I will end up psyching myself out. I like to speak “off the cuff”. At the start, it’s a bit hard to get going, but once my momentum is up it goes well.
Today I was really lucky that my audience was really into what I was talking about. I probably spent the same amount of time answering questions as I did on the first part of my talk.
It feels really good to have the opportunity to share my knowledge with others. I like being able to help them out by explaining how I’ve got to where I am and pointing out where I went wrong.
I’m a big believer in letting others make mistakes for you so you can learn from their mistakes. If I tell people about my mistakes it means they can learn from them and won’t need to make them. I’m grateful to have these opportunities and get to share this knowledge.
