Gratitude, Day 72: I am grateful for air conditioning

Air conditioning has been my best friend over the last couple of months. Today we have had the highest temperature on record since 1981 when they started measuring temperatures in our city.

Life doesn’t suck…
because of air conditioning

I really don’t enjoy being too hot. I’m a sweaty person. I hate being sweaty. Having air conditioning has made the crazy heat we have had recently bearable. I’ve been hopping between the air conditioning at home, the air conditioning in the car and the air conditioning at work.

This has been such a relief. People come into our office at work and you can see how happy they are to be in the cool air. I was even a little cold today. When I left work at 4:30 pm the thermometer in my car said that it was thirty-five degrees.

I’m used to the high twenties, but thirty-plus isn’t fun. You can feel the heat in your throat when it’s over thirty. It makes going outside highly unpleasant.

I’ve even avoided leaving the office to get lunch during the day. Hiding in the office between the hours of nine and five has been my strategy. I’ve been surviving on vegemite sandwiches for lunch.

During the last week, we saw thirty-nine in the car one day. I read an article this evening saying that the temperature had been thirty-five where it’s measured at the airport and that it’s often five degrees hotter in town. They think we may have had temperatures touching on forty.

I’m super grateful that there are so many places with air conditioning now. It makes these crazy temperatures much easier to live with.
