The feeling of achievement when you do something clever is amazing. I’ve spent the day working on a job that extends me quite a bit and once it all worked out I felt really clever.
Life doesn’t suck…
because of the feeling of achievement
I love when a job pushes me and makes me really think hard. Today’s job has taught me a lot. It’s taken a lot of research and a lot of thinking. I love the process of working through and eventually hitting the jackpot. The feeling of achievement when it all works out is amazing.
It’s a bit of a rollercoaster sometimes. The time the process takes before the success is directly related to the level of frustration or achievement. A longer process makes the win feel like you’ve really earnt it. If it takes too long it can become hugely frustrating.
You can be on the verge of tearing your hair out and then all of a sudden everything falls into place. This is an amazing rush. You go from wanting to quit your job and give up to wanting to tell the world about how amazing you are.
The sad thing is that sometimes something that is amazing to me doesn’t mean anything to other people. How do you boast about doing something amazing when people don’t understand it? “Hey guess what! I just did something amazing. I tweaked the widget to make the gadget run better!” “Sorry? You did what?”
Just like explaining a joke, when you have to explain your successes it just doesn’t have the same appeal. I’m still super grateful for the feeling of achievement when I do something clever.
