I have a pretty diverse group of friends. The more I talk to them the more I learn about them and their stories and their journeys.
Life doesn’t suck…
because I have a diverse group of friends.
It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself, your friends and the world just by having a chat. I spent an hour in the car today with two friends who I hadn’t spent a great deal of time with outside of group situations. We talked for the whole trip out and the whole trip back. We had interesting conversations about politics, we talked about various parts of each of our upbringings.
One friend had moved here from another country to study. They had come from a different culture and it was amazing to know how short a time they had been here. I didn’t realise that they hadn’t been here all their life. It was interesting finding out how they had chosen this country and how they chose our city. I’ve lived in New Zealand all my life so it was interesting to hear about their country and what had prompted their move.
We talked about how my other friend had no living relatives, which was quite a foreign concept to me as I come from quite a large family. I’ve always been very close to my parents and not having them around would be a huge thing. It makes me appreciate what I have.
I am grateful for my diverse friend group because it teaches me more about how other people live. It shows me how good I have things and it gives me lots of others to learn lots of different things from.
This post marks the end of my first week of posts. My goal is a year of gratitude to show how lucky I am and how good my life is. It’s hard to be depressed when you’re busy being grateful.
