Evening walks with my dog are a good excuse to do some exercise. I’ve never been big on exercising for the sake of exercising. Knowing that the dog needs exercise too is good motivation to get out and go for a walk.
Life doesn’t suck…
because I get to have evening walks with my dog
My prefered form of exercise is doing something I find enjoyable like swimming or riding. The idea of going for a walk or a run just doesn’t appeal to me.
Since we’ve got a dog things have been different. I know that he needs the exercise or he will torment us with his excess energy. We’ve got a loop around the farm that’s about two kilometres.
We put the harness on our little dog and hook him on his lead and we’re off. This usually takes twenty to thirty minutes. His small brown nose goes from tree to cow poo to puddle. Every hundred or so of his tiny footsteps we have to stop to leave his scent on something.
He spends the whole walk with a giant smile on his face and a happy pant. His journey is probably twice as far as mine with all his zigging and zagging and toing and froing. When we pass the cows he puts his big dog voice on and barks at them with a deep grumble that defies his size.
Not only is the walk a great way to give him his exercise but it means I’m out getting some decent exercise too. He sets the pace and we end up going at a really good speed.
I’m grateful that evening walks with my dog are an enjoyable way for me to exercise and mean that we are doing something good for both of us.
