Gratitude, Day 5: I love my dog

I love my dog. I didn’t want a dog. We talked about getting a dog and I said no. So we got a dog. I’m so grateful we got a dog.

Life doesn’t suck…
because I love my dog and the love and happiness he brings to my life.

I’ve never been a dog person. Growing up we had a cat and my cousins always had dogs. Dogs were slobbery. They jumped up on you. They had bad breath. Then I met our little dude. He’s a small dog, so not the “coolest” dog to “normal” dog people. But he has a huge heart and a huge smile that’s always plastered across his face. I’m grateful I was talked into being a dog person.

He’s not the best-behaved dog, but he gives great cuddles. If you hold him in your arms he leans in and puts his head against you. He sleeps on our bed and lays right next to you, pressing himself against you. He’s super soft and looks and feels like a teddy bear.

When I get home from work he’s waiting at the gate with his nose pushed through the gaps looking out at me. He leans against my legs as I come down the path and is just waiting for some love. He tangles himself around my legs making it known that he’s getting cuddles before I do anything else and it’s always a challenge to put my things down with him waiting impatiently for attention.

I may not have wanted him to come into my life, but the instant I met him he turned me into a dog person. He gives me love and happiness I never knew I wanted and has all the benefits of a cat with none of the attitude.

Today, I am grateful for my dog.
