Trips to the barber are a major component of my self-care routine. It’s always great to come out feeling fresh and tidy afterward.
Life doesn’t suck…
because I can take time out for trips to the barber
I’ve always found it hard to put my trust in a new hairdresser or barber. I’m a bit stuck in my ways and tend to have only changed hairdresser or barber when my current one leaves town or gets a different job.
I’d never been to a barber until about ten years ago. I’d previously been going to hairdressers. The biggest bonus of the barbershop is that they do facial hair as well as just the usual head hair. I was never a big fan of shaving and had started trimming my facial hair with clippers.
Once I started going to the barber I no longer needed to trim my own facial hair. I now try to get my hair and beard done every four to six weeks, depending on how busy I am.
There is nothing like going into the barber feeling scruffy and coming out all fresh and clean. I love the attention to detail and the quality of the job you get. It’s cool watching the process and seeing the care that goes into it.
I’ve been going to the same barber since they opened. My barber was the apprentice where mum used to get her hair cut about twenty years ago. When I heard she was back in town and working with the hairdresser she did her apprenticeship with, in her own business I had to check it out.
It’s most likely the most popular barbershop in town. There have been times where I have put my name on the board and been told to come back in two hours.
Today I waited ninety minutes for my turn in the chair. It was totally worth it though and I left feeling and looking great. I’m really grateful for my trips to the barber.
