The internet gives me a job. It makes information readily available and it allows us to do more and more each day as the technology rapidly advances.
When I first used the internet it was on a dial-up connection using an early version of Internet Explorer. I most likely used Yahoo to search. It would have looked something like this.
Life doesn’t suck…
because the internet makes the world available to us quickly and easily.
It’s crazy how technology has evolved in the last twelve years. Now I can ask Siri to search for things with my voice over a high-speed internet connection available on my cellphone. I can watch and send videos with this connection. At work I have a fibre-optic internet connection that I can download movies with in under ten minutes.
I built a website in 1999 using GeoCities. I had a small selection of fonts available to me, images looked terrible and even thinking about loading video over the internet was laughable.
Today anyone can build a beautiful website using a drag and drop system like Squarespace and share videos on it or sell products. I can stream 4k video straight to my TV and my remote even has a Netflix button so I can go straight to their streaming platform.
I can have video calls with multiple people all over the world at the same time to discuss business. This allows me to easily deal with clients in Europe from the comfort of my desk. The internet has made communication easier. It has effectively made the world feel smaller. We no longer have to wait for letters to travel by ship or plane around the world. We can have a whole string of email communications in less time that it would have taken to go to the post office to send a letter.
I’m hugely grateful for the huge leaps in technology that we have had. The internet lets me work with clients all over the world and quickly transfer documents around the globe. I’m looking forward to seeing what technological advancements happen in the next twelve years.
