Gratitude, Day 21: I am grateful for my family.

My family has always played a big part in my life. At high school, I was a minority because my parents were still together.

Life doesn’t suck…
because I’m lucky to have my family and their support.

Christmas is just ten days away. This is a huge family time for us. All of my family that are in the country get together each Christmas and eat until we fall asleep. As our family gets bigger we have to add more mini Christmases to accommodate everyone that is becoming a part of our extended family.

This year we are having Christmas Eve at my parents, Christmas morning at my partners and then lunch at my aunty’s place. Christmas lunch is a meal that we tend to eat around 3pm. Normally we will have grazed all day until then, been for a swim or two and done the whole presents thing. Once we’ve finished lunch everyone is in a food coma and talking about how they’re not going to need dinner. So we have dessert. You know, once you’ve eaten more than you can possibly comprehend, you chuck some pavlova and ice cream on top.

I’m very lucky to have a family that is so close and spends so much time together. I’ve been with people in the past who haven’t understood how a family can spend so much time together and enjoy each other’s company as we do. I’m grateful for my family and how they are always there for me. Other people aren’t as lucky as I am to have this family situation and I’m grateful to be in this position. Christmas is a time when your family is important and having mine around is the best present I can have.

Current gratitude streak: 21 days
