Gratitude, Day 16: I am grateful for the real people.

Real people make life awesome. I define a real person as someone who is exactly what they say they are. They aren’t hiding behind some persona, and you see the same version of them no matter who they are around.

Life doesn’t suck…
because of real people.

It’s refreshing to spend time around people who aren’t hiding who they really are. They don’t mince their words, they aren’t afraid to “call a spade a spade”. You can talk freely to them knowing that they aren’t going to pass your conversation on or twist it in some way.

Surrounding myself with the right people has made my life much happier. I love sitting down with someone and asking “how are you?” and it not being small talk. It’s a genuine question about someone I care about and I know they will tell me how they are and then reciprocate and actually care about how I am.

When someone is open about who they are and how they feel it’s much easier for it to be a two-way street. I asked a friend this afternoon “do you love your job”. They thought about it and told me that they have grown to love it and we talked about how they actually feel about their job and whether they want to keep going with it or explore other options.

I’m grateful to be able to sit down with a friend and have a deep conversation about how you both feel and find out more about them. None of this “did you see the game” or “man this weather has been weathery”. I talked with another friend about their journey towards being who they are today and how they have got there and the struggles they face and have faced. It’s refreshing to have a conversation where you both know that you are invested in the conversation.

Real people make life awesome, and I am grateful for all the real people.
