Time machine backups have saved me more than once. It’s amazing how fast you can be back up and running after a computer failure.
Life doesn’t suck…
because I have time machine backups
I’ve recently had a hardware failure in my work computer. I tried a couple of different components to fix it, but resorted to replacing it with a slightly more powerful second-hand computer.
The replacement computer arrived by courier this morning. I removed it from it’s box and plugged my backup hard drive. Within fifteen minutes of it arriving I had my new computer restoring from a backup. After transferring all the files to the new computer it was indistinguishable from the state my old computer had been in before it’s failure.
It’s not the first time I’ve had to do this and every time I do it I’m grateful that I have the backup and the ability to restore it. The newly restored machine always amazes me with how identical it is to the previous machine.
If I hadn’t had the backup I would have had to resort to expensive data recovery options. Any of these options would have taken considerably longer than the restore and I wouldn’t have had the seamless transition from one computer to the other.
I lost a little time due to trying to repair the old computer, but if I’d needed to I could have had a new computer up and running from my backup in not much longer than a lunch break. I’m grateful that I had my time machine backups to restore from and that I didn’t lose any important data. My backups have made my life much more stress-free.
